-=+Raekartan History+=-

-=+The Pre-War Times+=-

In the days of early for Raekarta, the people of the world lived in a state somewhere between peace and chaos. Magic was rampant and used for the evils against nature, humans lived together in a state of self delusion, believing they were gods because of their magics. But before long, the humans wanted creatures to do their bidding, so as a result, the Kaetif were created, anthropomorphic animals created to do the hardier labor that the humans simply felt as though they didn’t have to do any longer. So as masters and slaves, the humans and kaetif lived in a bitter showing of what life was like. Whenever a kaetif misbehaved they were reprimanded with magic, so they were held back from going further into their evolution. But it did not take long before the final straw was broken and all chaos broke loose.

-=+The Great War+=-

The Great War occurred due to the horrible treatment of the Kaetif by the human population. In return, they revolted. Though the humans were caught off guard at first, they quickly grew their defenses together and staved off the initial attack, only to be locked into a bloody and desperate fight. The sides soon formed up, many Kaetif torn, some siding with humans, others with their fellow kaetif, others still choosing not to fight. Having no magic, the Kaetif were beaten time and again, but they refused to back down, knowing the longer they lasted, the longer they would survive, as they knew something about the humans that even they didn’t realize: they were stronger of will. The humans had not had to perform the daily tasks for themselves for the longest time and without their slaves, the lives they lived started to degrade, slowly moving into a downward spiral. Eventually, humans soon faced off against other humans out of survival, trying to claim all they could to survive in slaves and anything they could get. A dark time fell over the land. Few survived the wars that plagued the civilizations, though some high mages managed it. Before they died, they used the final bits of their magic to band together and create the Black Tapestries. On them, the history of magic, the Great War and the death of civilizations were shown, the kaetif and human quarrel and eventually how to teach the magic that had destroyed so many. Cast upon the Tapestries, they gave a message saying to only teach the magic to the wisest and learned, not to the foolhardy. With the last of their magic, they infused the Tapestries with the ability to survive for eternity before they too fell to the ground, their lives ended.

-=+The Order+=-

Thousands of years passed before the Black Tapestries were discovered by humans in the ruins of Castle Creedmoor. With them, and the teachings they gave, the humans rebuilt the castle and the surrounding town, populating it with the smartest and wisest humanity had to offer. The Great Council was formed and those who brought forth the magic created a pact known as The Order. Ruling over magic with an iron fist, they placed representatives in every town to ensure their laws were enforced. Centuries passed that they ruled over all the magic in the world, but if anyone did not agree to their terms, then they were eliminated.

-=+The Present+=-

In the present, the Order rules over all, the fear and power they possess keeping everyone in check. In every town, representatives ensure that things move smoothly and with the Order’s wishes. Naturally, the Order couldn’t care less about what the people do to each other, but the members of the Order are the elite. As a law, they are not to be touched under any circumstance, the failure to comply with this rule usually ending up with many difficulties for the attacker in question. In order to find the criminals that they want, the OrderGuard is present, highly trained and specially tasked to do their jobs above and beyond any of the other members. They are the elite of the elite and messing with one would likely mean your death in short order. All Order members, naturally, are to follow the orders of the Council without question, no matter their own thoughts or opinions. The Council is all-powerful, and to betray them would signal the demise of those daring to speak back against their superiors. Kaetif more or less stay away from the human populations, the majority of them in the town of Theropos. Murder itself is legal, so bounty hunters and killers dot the countryside, looking for work amongst the other peasants all around. A lot of people tend to stay around the more popular cities, Glenwood, Creedmoor, Six Forks, Cabarras, Westmoorlan, and several others that tend to be high traffic areas for all sorts of people, either of good or ill repute. All sorts come to these places and one never truly knows if someone out there is looking for them. It is a grim reality, but one everyone has gotten used to, knowing that it will never change. That things as they know it will be as good as it gets. Our story follows one bounty hunter in particular, Lorelei. Early in her life, her parents were brutally slaughtered by Kaetif. She was adopted by a band of traveling thieves, learning the tricks of the trade. Later in her years, she discovered killing people was easier than sneaking around them, and was thus kicked out of the troupe for being a liability. She learned of the profitable business of hunting. The rest is history... being retold to you by Lorelei herself.
